Tata Memorial OPD registration for new patients runs between 8 am and 11 am, according to the hospital’s own Patient Booklet 2026. This guide covers Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH) at Parel, Mumbai, which is run by the Tata Memorial Centre. It does not cover Tata Medical Centre in Kolkata or Tata Main Hospital in Jamshedpur, which are separate institutions. Below you will find how a new patient registers, the appointment route, the published fees and the institutional contacts, all taken from tmc.gov.in.

General information, not medical advice. Facts below were read on 17 October 2026 on the official Tata Memorial Centre website and its Patient Booklet 2026, listed at the end. Anything we could not confirm is flagged in the text. This page gives no advice on treatment and makes no promise about cost.

Tata Memorial OPD at a glance

The hospital treats cancer. The Tata Memorial OPD is built around people with a diagnosed cancer, so the first thing to check is which registration type fits you. The official online registration page lists six options, and the table shows how each one is described.

If you are a foreign national, do not use this page. Read our Tata Memorial international patients guide instead, because the process starts with an email to the International Patients Liaison Cell.

Which Tata Memorial OPD hours apply to new patients?

The Patient Booklet 2026 says that new patients report to the registration area between 8 am and 11 am. Patients who are already on treatment or follow-up come to the OPD at their appointment time. The booklet advises booking the next OPD visit in advance, and says walk-in patients are given appointments as per availability.

So the Tata Memorial OPD morning window of 8 am to 11 am is for registering a new case file. It is not a promise that you will be seen by a doctor in that window. Waiting time depends on the day and the department.

The Patient Booklet on tmc.gov.in prints a day-wise table for the Surgical, Medical and Radiation Oncology departments, but we could not read it reliably, so we do not state department days and hours. Check the table in the booklet, or ask the Enquiry Counter, before you travel. An older source quoting a single 10 to 5 or 11:30 to 5 timing is not an official one.

Closed days

The Closed Days page on tmc.gov.in lists 17 dates in 2026 on which the institution is closed. The ones still ahead as of 17 October 2026 are Dussehra on 20 October, Diwali (Bhaubeej) on 11 November, Guru Nanak’s Birthday on 24 November and Christmas on 25 December. Plan your Tata Memorial OPD visit around them.

The closed-days list on tmc.gov.in/holiday is printed for 2026 only, 17 dates from Republic Day on 26 January to Christmas on 25 December, and dates can be revised, so re-read the page before you travel.

How a new patient registers at Tata Memorial OPD

The booklet says patients visiting TMH for the first time register at one of the OPD Registration Counters. Both counters are at the Parel campus:

  • General Category: Ground Floor, Golden Jubilee Building.
  • Private Category: 1st Floor, Homi Bhabha Building.

When you reach the counter a token is issued, and you are called to fill in the registration form in token order. The booklet adds that a new case file is made for diagnosed cancer patients who have chosen to take investigations and treatment at TMH, and that the patient must be physically present to make it.

Register online first to save time

To cut time at the counter, the hospital urges new patients to register online on the official registration page. You enter your details and upload a government photo ID. A 13-digit Web Provisional Registration Number (WPRN) is then generated.

Tell that number to the registration staff when you arrive. They update your details and give you a final registration number. After registration you receive a Smart card and a Case File and are directed to your OPD.

Our AIIMS online appointment guide explains a different system, the national ORS portal. Tata Memorial uses its own registration form, so do not mix the two.

Documents to carry

Tata Memorial OPD: documents checklist
What to carry

The Patient Booklet lists these pre-requisites for registration:

  • Referral letter, if you have one, from your referring doctor or institution.
  • Photo ID proof of the patient and of the nominee. For Indian citizens this is an Aadhaar card or any government-issued photo ID. A minor without Aadhaar should carry a birth certificate.
  • Previous reports, including outside radiology (CT or MRI), other imaging, blood tests, and pathology slides or blocks, especially those that established the diagnosis.
  • A companion, a responsible adult attendant who can take decisions for you if you are unable to.
  • A nominee, designated at the time of registration, who can act for you on financial or documentary matters.

General or Private category: what the hospital says

Patients may register in the General or the Private Category. The booklet says the choice is the patient’s, but that switching later is discouraged and allowed only in justified circumstances with approval from the Medical Superintendent’s Office. It advises choosing carefully at registration.

According to the booklet, General Category services are highly subsidised, often 50 to 80 percent lower than Private Category charges, and patients are not billed professional fees such as consultation or surgeon’s fees. Waiting areas in the General Tata Memorial OPD are usually more crowded. The booklet also says the quality of treatment and medical advice is the same in both categories.

The registration fee and initial deposit printed in the booklet are below. The hospital notes that charges may change from time to time. These are published fees for registration, not an estimate of what treatment will cost.

Type of patientRegistration feeInitial deposit
General patientRs. 100Rs. 4,000
Private patientRs. 500See the booklet
Foreign nationalRs. 750Rs. 2,00,000

The booklet table lists two Private patient rows, one for adult haematological cancer, but we could not match the figures to their rows with certainty, so we do not state a deposit amount. Confirm at the Enquiry Counter or in the booklet.

The full tariff for tests and procedures is in the Schedule of Charges on the official charges page. We do not quote it here, because it is long and revised.

The Smart card and the initial deposit

Every patient is issued a Smart card at registration. It identifies you, lets doctors open your records in the OPD, and is used to pay for services. The booklet says the hospital does not take cash at its billing counters, so you top up the card and pay with it.

The card is protected by a 4-digit PIN given at issue. Any unused balance can be refunded on request. You can check the balance at kiosks in the waiting areas, at the OPD reception desk, or on the hospital’s WhatsApp chatbot.

Appointment route and tokens

A first visit to the Tata Memorial OPD is handled through registration as described above. The appointment route in the booklet is mainly for return visits. After a consultation you meet the OPD reception desk to book the next one.

The booklet also says appointments can be requested by a message-only WhatsApp number or by email to the General or Private OPD desks, with a reply promised within 24 hours. Do not call that WhatsApp number. Slots are not guaranteed for your chosen date.

On the day of the visit a token is issued one hour before your appointment time, and the booklet asks you not to arrive earlier than that. You are called in token order, and the number is shown on a screen against the room number. Show your appointment slip or message at the entrance gate when you come for the Tata Memorial OPD.

  1. Confirm that you are a diagnosed cancer patient who wants treatment at TMH Parel.
  2. Register online and note your 13-digit WPRN.
  3. Reach the registration area between 8 am and 11 am with your documents.
  4. Choose General or Private carefully and pay the registration fee and deposit.
  5. Collect your Smart card and Case File and go to the OPD you are directed to.

Second opinion and teleconsultation

A person who is being treated elsewhere and wants an expert view can get an Expert Opinion Card instead of a full registration. The booklet says this is only an opinion service. No invasive procedure is done and no medicine is issued from the TMH Dispensary on that basis. The opinion can be given even if the patient is not present.

If you cannot travel to the Tata Memorial OPD, teleconsultation is offered by audio or video call for non-emergency cases, subject to appointment availability. The booklet gives a teleconsultation desk telephone line, a WhatsApp number and an email for booking.

Costs and schemes

We cannot say what any treatment will cost, and nobody should promise it. For the Tata Memorial OPD, what is published is the registration fee, the initial deposit and the Schedule of Charges. For the general rules of the Ayushman Bharat scheme at a large government hospital, see our Ayushman card guide. Ask the Enquiry Counter whether it applies to your case.

The pages we read do not say whether Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY or any other scheme applies to a particular patient at TMH Parel, so check at the Enquiry Counter.
