An AIIMS online appointment is booked through the government’s Online Registration System, known as ORS, on ors.gov.in. You log in with your Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), choose the hospital and department, pick a date and receive an SMS. This guide explains each step, the other ways AIIMS Delhi says patients can book, and what to check at the other AIIMS institutes, with links to our guide for each one.
General information, not medical advice. Portals, phone numbers and rules change, so confirm them on the official sites linked at the end before you travel.

AIIMS online appointment: what it is and who it is for
AIIMS stands for All India Institute of Medical Sciences, a group of government medical institutes. The best known is AIIMS New Delhi, and there are newer institutes in other cities. Each one runs its own outpatient department (OPD), so the same AIIMS online appointment can work slightly differently from one institute to the next.
The ORS portal describes itself as a Digital India initiative that gives online access to hospital services, integrated with ABHA. It lists online appointments, teleconsultation appointments, e-OPD cards, payments, lab reports and blood availability among its facilities. This page is for patients and families who want to book an OPD visit at an AIIMS and are not sure where to start.
AIIMS online appointment through ORS: the six steps

- Open the portal. Go to ors.gov.in and choose Register/Login. The portal also offers an option to create an ABHA if you do not have one.
- Verify yourself. The portal says you verify with your ABHA. AIIMS Delhi’s own document, which we cite below, describes older options: Aadhaar number, or a mobile number, and for patients who already have a hospital number (UHID), the registered mobile number plus a one-time password (OTP).
- Select the hospital and department. Pick the AIIMS you want and the department you need to see.
- Select the date. Choose from the appointment slots the hospital has made available.
- Wait for the SMS. The portal says you receive an SMS for the appointment. AIIMS Delhi’s document says the SMS carries details such as reporting time and room number.
- Go to the hospital. At AIIMS Delhi, patients with an appointment can report at the fast-track counters. Carry your appointment details and a photo ID.
If you have not booked an AIIMS online appointment before, allow a few minutes to create your ABHA first. The portal’s home page links to the ABHA creation step.
How big is ORS? Figures from the portal
On the day we checked, 3 October 2026, the portal’s home page showed that 2,104 hospitals were listed and that 14,523,588 online appointments had been taken in total. These counters change every day, and they cover all hospitals on the portal, not only AIIMS.

Being on the portal does not mean every department of every AIIMS takes bookings through it. The portal lets hospitals join and publish their own slots, so a department may or may not be open for booking on a given day.
Other ways to book an AIIMS appointment at AIIMS Delhi
AIIMS Delhi publishes a document on its appointment system. It lists several routes besides the web portal. The document reports data up to June 2017, so treat the phone numbers as a starting point and check them on the AIIMS website before relying on them.
| Route | What the AIIMS Delhi document says |
|---|---|
| Web portal / ORS | New and follow-up appointments, with or without a hospital number (UHID). With a UHID you enter the registered mobile number and an OTP. |
| Phone (IVRS) | Only for patients with a UHID. You cannot choose the doctor, and you are booked with the doctor you saw before. Number given: 1860 258 3010. |
| Call centre | For new and old patients. Number given: 011-65900669. A date and time are fixed for the specialty. |
| Counters and kiosks | Registration counters on site. Self-service kiosks offer a new appointment, a follow-up appointment, a duplicate slip, and confirmation or cancellation. |
| Mobile app | An Android app called AIIMS@Delhi. You enter the phone number and the UHID. |
Every route ends the same way: the patient gets a confirmation SMS on the registered mobile number. Whichever AIIMS online appointment route you choose, keep that SMS.
What to keep ready before you book

- your ABHA, or your Aadhaar number or mobile number if the hospital still offers those options;
- your hospital number (UHID) if you have visited the hospital before;
- the name of the department you need, and any referral note from your doctor;
- previous reports and prescriptions, to carry on the day;
- a phone that can receive SMS on the number you register.
New patient or follow-up AIIMS online appointment
AIIMS Delhi’s document says patients can take both new and follow-up appointments on the portal. It also says a new patient who verifies with an Aadhaar number gets an appointment and a UHID at the same time, and that if the Aadhaar number is already linked to a UHID, the UHID stays the same. If you have been to the hospital before, look for your old UHID first so you do not create a second record.
AIIMS online appointment guides for each institute
We have written separate guides for many institutes. They cover OPD details, doctor lists and booking notes for each one. Because each institute runs its own OPD, confirm the booking route and timings on its official website before you travel.

Common problems with an AIIMS online appointment
- No slot for your department. Slots are published by each hospital, so try another date, or check again later. Do not pay anyone for a slot.
- The OTP does not arrive. The OTP goes to the mobile number registered with the hospital or with Aadhaar. AIIMS Delhi’s document says a patient whose number is not registered with UIDAI is authenticated using the name instead. If the number on record is old, ask the registration counter to update it.
- A copycat website. Official addresses are ors.gov.in and aiims.edu. Be careful with sites that look official but charge a booking fee or ask for card details.
- A second UHID. Booking as a new patient when you already have a UHID can create a duplicate record. Look up your old number first.
- A booking you can no longer use. AIIMS Delhi’s document says kiosks can confirm or cancel an appointment. Ask the counters at other institutes what they offer.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make an AIIMS online appointment?
Use the ORS portal at ors.gov.in: log in with your ABHA, select the hospital and department, choose a date and wait for the SMS. The steps are listed above.
Is the AIIMS online appointment portal official?
ORS is run by NIC, the National Informatics Centre, as a Government of India initiative, and its pages carry the Government of India footer. Check that the web address is ors.gov.in.
Do I need an ABHA to book?
The portal says you verify with your ABHA and offers a link to create one. AIIMS Delhi’s older document also describes Aadhaar and mobile-number options. Use whatever the portal currently shows you.
Can I book a follow-up AIIMS online appointment?
AIIMS Delhi’s document says the web portal handles both new and follow-up appointments. Follow-up patients with a UHID enter the registered mobile number and an OTP.
Can I book without the internet?
AIIMS Delhi lists a call centre, an IVRS phone line for patients with a UHID, and registration counters and kiosks on site. Confirm the numbers on the AIIMS website first, because the document is dated.
Does every AIIMS take online bookings through ORS?
We could not confirm that for every institute. Check the portal’s hospital list and the institute’s own website. Our institute guides above link to what we have found for each.
How will I know my AIIMS online appointment is confirmed?
The portal says you receive an SMS, and AIIMS Delhi’s document says all routes send a confirmation SMS to the registered mobile number. Keep it.
Can foreign patients use the AIIMS online appointment system?
Foreign patients usually need a medical visa and a hospital letter first. See our medical tourism guide for the general process.
