Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore treats many patients from outside India, especially from Bangladesh and other South Asian countries. This guide for CMC Vellore international patients sets out what CMC itself publishes: how to book, how to get the medical visa invitation letter, and what to do at the International Relations Office (IRO) and the police station after you arrive.
General information, not medical or legal advice. Every step below is from CMC’s own website, read on 7 October 2026. Check CMC’s pages before you travel, because procedures change. CMC Vellore is a private, not-for-profit Christian mission hospital, not a government hospital. We cover it because so many patients ask about it.

CMC Vellore international patients: the process at a glance

- Book an appointment online (optional, but it is what CMC asks for when it issues the visa letter to a new patient).
- Request the medical visa invitation letter from CMC’s International Relations Office by email or WhatsApp.
- Apply for your Indian medical visa, using the CMC letter.
- Register at the IRO in Vellore (room 900B, Prince Manor Building) with your original passport.
- Register at the police station within 24 hours of IRO registration, then give a copy of the stamped form to the IRO.
Step 1: Booking for CMC Vellore international patients
CMC’s FAQ says international patients can book a new outpatient appointment online through “Make online appointment” on the CMC website, and repeat patients book the same way. You bring the paid, confirmed appointment to the IRO, where staff register your passport. CMC also says international patients do not need to do online pre-registration, because IRO staff do it when you arrive, followed by new registration and the doctor’s appointment at the same place.
If your visa is short and you cannot get an early appointment, CMC says to contact the International Relations Officer in IRO 900B or the Silver Gate 600 staff. For step-by-step screens of the online system, see our CMC Vellore online appointment guide. For help with online booking, CMC lists webappointment@cmcvellore.ac.in.
CMC Vellore appointment fees
| Appointment type (CMC wording, shortened) | Fee |
|---|---|
| Private: new appointment, first visit (includes consultation and hospital number card) | ₹990 |
| Private: repeat, same unit consultant within 90 days | ₹470 |
| Private: first visit to a different unit or department | ₹900 |
| General: new appointment, first visit | ₹350 |
| General: new or repeat appointment, same or different unit | ₹230 |
These are CMC’s published appointment fees (page updated 6 July 2026). CMC does not publish a separate foreign-national tariff that we could find, and it publishes no treatment package prices. Ask the department for an estimate. Online payment accepts net banking, Indian debit cards and international credit cards.
Step 2: The CMC Vellore medical visa invitation letter
CMC’s procedure is short: download the AYUSH INFO FORM (an Excel sheet), fill it in, and send it to iro@cmcvellore.ac.in. The form also lists WhatsApp numbers +91 94987 49969 and +91 94987 49970.

- Details asked for: patient name, nationality, passport number, address at home and in India, up to three attendants, diagnosis or proposed treatment, doctor and department, expected cost and length of stay.
- New patients attach: previous medical reports, a passport copy and the online CMC appointment slip.
- Repeat patients attach: the CMC medical report or the online appointment slip.
- Everyone: clear passport copies of the patient and every attendant.
Three rules from the form matter. The request must come from the patient’s or a relative’s own email or WhatsApp, not from an agent. The letter is issued for one department only, even if you have several appointments. One letter covers one family: the patient plus two or three attendants. CMC says it will not provide a letter if the form is incomplete.
Step 3: The Indian medical visa
CMC’s pages do not say which visa type to hold. The Government of India’s e-Visa portal offers an e-Medical visa for the patient and e-Medical Attendant visas for up to two attendants, for citizens of eligible countries including Bangladesh. Apply at least four days before arrival. Our Indian medical visa guide covers the documents, fees and timing from the official portal.
Step 4: IRO registration for CMC Vellore international patients
When you arrive, go to the IRO, room 900B, Prince Manor Building, near the exit gate of the town campus. CMC asks new international patients to carry:
- the patient’s original passport;
- the relatives’ original passports (and an ID proof for any Indian relative);
- a copy of the “G.O letter with the boarding address” (CMC’s wording; ask the IRO what it needs if you are unsure);
- the online CMC appointment, if you booked one, and previous medical reports.
CMC says every foreign national must register at the IRO each time they come for treatment, as required by a State Government order.
Step 5: Police registration within 24 hours
After IRO registration, CMC says you must fill in the police verification form and register at the police station within 24 hours. This applies to the patient and every relative. Then give a photocopy of the police-stamped form to the IRO. CMC warns that skipping this step causes difficulty with treatment and travel.
CMC Vellore international patients during treatment
- Female attendant. Outpatient treatment is possible if you come alone, but CMC says a female attendant is mandatory if the patient is admitted to a ward.
- Visa extension. Ask the treating doctor for the visa extension letter.
- C-Form. Contact the IRO, room 900B.
- Outpatient advance (OPAD). It is loaded with cash or a debit card at the hospital counters, and a balance stays valid for a year. A refund carries a ₹100 fee.
CMC Vellore international patients from Bangladesh
Bangladesh sends more medical travellers to India than any other country: about three in four foreign medical arrivals in 2024, by our calculation from Ministry of Tourism data. The CMC process above applies to Bangladeshi patients in the same way. Two points are often confused:
- We found no CMC office in Bangladesh. CMC’s website names none, so treat any “CMC Dhaka office” claim with care and contact CMC’s IRO directly.
- The “Help Desk for Bengali Patients” on CMC’s portal is Janata Medical Service in Kolkata, which CMC’s appointment system describes as being for patients from West Bengal, India.
For the wider picture of treatment at Indian hospitals, read our medical tourism guide.
Coming from abroad for treatment? Use our contact form to tell us your country, the treatment you need and whether you are considering CMC Vellore. We will reply with the hospital’s official international-patient contact and the steps it publishes. We are an information site, not a hospital or a visa agent. We cannot book appointments, quote treatment prices or arrange visas.
