Jan Aushadhi omega 3 capsules come in four forms on PMBJP’s official list, read on 28 October 2026: a cod liver oil combination at ₹42.19 for ten capsules (drug code 2096), an omega-3 500 mg capsule with lutein and vitamin D3 at ₹141 for thirty (code 2327), a smaller lutein-omega-3 capsule at ₹37.50 for ten (code 2326) and a coenzyme Q10 combination at ₹141 for ten (code 1544). Per capsule that is ₹3.75 to ₹14.06. What the Kendra does not sell is a plain 1,000 mg fish oil capsule, which is the product most people picture, so this page explains what each of the four actually contains, what a doctor prescribes omega-3 for, and when a supplement is money well spent.

General information, not medical advice. Jan Aushadhi prices are PMBJP’s published MRP on 28 October 2026 (official Product & MRP List); the drug code lets you check any row, and prices of ₹100 and above are rounded to the rupee. These are supplements, not medicines; a prescription-strength omega-3 for high triglycerides is a different product and dose, which your doctor decides.

Read the omega-3 column carefully, because the capsule names are long and the fish-oil content is small. The cod liver oil capsule (code 2096) has 300 mg of cod liver oil plus 90 mg of separate omega-3 fatty acids; a branded 1,000 mg fish oil capsule typically carries 300 mg of EPA and DHA together (180 mg EPA and 120 mg DHA on the labels of MuscleBlaze, Apollo Pharmacy and Tata 1mg fish oil, read 28 October 2026). The 30-capsule product (code 2327) is the strongest of the four at 150 mg EPA and 100 mg DHA, and it is built as an eye supplement, with lutein, zeaxanthin, bilberry and beta-carotene, which is why an ophthalmology OPD is where it tends to be prescribed. The CoQ10 capsule (code 1544) is a heart-clinic product, usually written for patients on statins who complain of muscle aches; its omega-3 is incidental.

What a doctor prescribes omega 3 for

Three situations, and they differ a lot. First, high triglycerides: here the evidence is for prescription doses of two to four grams of EPA and DHA a day, which is eight to twenty of any capsule on this list, so the doctor prescribes a concentrated product rather than a Kendra supplement. Second, dry eye and age-related macular degeneration: eye departments at AIIMS and elsewhere do write omega-3 and lutein combinations, and code 2327 is the Kendra’s version of that prescription. Third, general “heart health” in someone with no diagnosis: the two largest trials of the last decade, VITAL in the United States and ASCEND in Britain, each gave about a gram of fish oil a day to tens of thousands of people and found no reduction in heart attacks or strokes. If you eat fish twice a week you are already getting more omega-3 than these capsules provide; if you are vegetarian, flaxseed, walnuts and mustard oil supply the plant form.

Cod liver oil is a special case, because its historic use was as a vitamin A and D source, not for omega-3. A child or an older adult with low vitamin D is better served by the Kendra’s cholecalciferol tablets and sachets, which deliver a measured dose for a few rupees; see the vitamin section of the Jan Aushadhi medicine price list. Cod liver oil in large amounts can push vitamin A too high, particularly in pregnancy.

How to buy Jan Aushadhi omega 3 capsules

How to buy Jan Aushadhi omega 3 capsules at a Kendra
Buying at a Kendra
  1. Decide with the doctor whether you need an omega-3 at all, and which: eye (code 2327), general (2096 or 2326) or the CoQ10 combination (1544).
  2. Note the drug code. The names are long; the code is what the pharmacist searches.
  3. Find a Kendra on janaushadhi.gov.in or the Jan Aushadhi Sugam app and call first. Supplements are stocked less reliably than medicines.
  4. Ask the Kendra to order it if it is out; Kendras indent from PMBJP’s warehouses.
  5. Check the expiry. Soft-gel capsules go rancid; a bottle near its date smells of fish when opened.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Jan Aushadhi omega 3 capsule price?

₹42.19 for ten cod liver oil combination capsules (code 2096), ₹141 for thirty omega-3 500 mg capsules with lutein (code 2327), ₹37.50 for ten lutein-omega-3 capsules (code 2326) and ₹141 for ten CoQ10-omega-3 capsules (code 1544), official MRP on 28 October 2026.

Does Jan Aushadhi sell plain fish oil 1000 mg capsules?

No. All four omega-3 products on the list are combinations, and the strongest carries 250 mg of EPA plus DHA per capsule. Websites that sell “Jan Aushadhi fish oil” are not PMBJP, which sells only through Kendras.

Is cod liver oil good for children?

It was given for vitamin A and D before those were available as tablets. Today a paediatrician prescribes vitamin D drops or tablets in a measured dose instead; too much cod liver oil can give a child too much vitamin A.

Should I take omega 3 for my heart?

If you have high triglycerides, your doctor may prescribe a concentrated omega-3 at a dose far above these capsules. If you are healthy, the large trials found no benefit from a daily fish oil capsule; eating fish twice a week does more.
