Introduction to CMC Eye Hospital Vellore

CMC Vellore Eye Hospital is your trusted destination for top-notch eye care. The journey began in 1941, and since then, CMC Eye Hospital Vellore has grown into a multi-specialty department renowned for excellence in ophthalmic care, backed by prestigious NABH accreditation. The Eye Hospital was established to give specialist care for eye conditions to prevent avoidable blindness and provide state-of-the-art therapies. Its founding was a critical turning point in India’s struggle against vision impairment.

In August 2012, the Chittoor campus’s eye services were launched by the department of ophthalmology at CMC (Schell Eye Hospital). At first, there was only one outpatient visit every month. Referred to Schell Eye Hospital were patients who needed further care and those who needed cataract surgery. OPD services were offered three days a week in 2017 along with the appointment of a part-time ophthalmologist. Patients can receive eye services every day of the week starting in January 2019, when we will have a full-time ophthalmologist. Even though we have all the necessities, we still require additional equipment to enhance our offerings.

CMC Vellore Eye Hospital has a team of 18 dedicated full-time faculty members and 100 inpatient beds. The hospital provides clinical services with over one lakh outpatients and 7,500 surgeries annually. The hospital offers comprehensive eye care, from routine check-ups to specialized treatments.

The CMC Eye Hospital Vellore is a part of the Christian Medical College (CMC) well-connected to major cities through a network of highways and is served by the nearby Katpadi Junction railway station. Additionally, the Chennai International Airport is just a few hours’ drive away, making it convenient for international patients.
